ABSTRACT: In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja – Nigeria, the preponderance of poverty is evident in many rural and urban areas resulting in many social vices and insecurity. Despite the resources devoted to reduce poverty and enhance socio-economic development in the FCT, poverty remained unabated. Accordingly, this study seeks to investigate the challenges implementation of poverty alleviation policies in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja – Nigeria. The study adopted the decision-making theory. The study found that some of the challenges hindering effective implementation of poverty programmers in the FCT include poor funding, poor and haphazard programmer implementation, inadequate training, corruption among others. In this regard, the study made recommendation such as improved funding and enhanced transparency in policy implementation process to curb corrupt practices and enhance the socio-economic well-being of the people of the FCT. The findings of the study reinforce the theory that group decision-making process can assist in incremental policy adjustment to enhance socio-economic well-being of a giving population.
